She was an avid craftsperson, and particularly enjoyed sewing. She was employed at Clark Shoe as a stitcher for many years, then worked at CMMC for the Housekeeping Department. She was born in Yarmouth on August 14, 1921 the daughter of Frank and Harriet (Grant) Gallant and attended area schools. Her father, Karl Furst of Denmark, lived to be 98 years old! Neal is a member of the Blazing Star Lodge, #30 AF & AM Rumford, ME; the Kora Temple Shrine; the Order of Eastern Star, Pondicherry Chapter, Bridgton, and the Yankee Radio Club, KB1YI. In 1978 they moved to Scarborough, ME where they raised their two children, Christine and George Jr. George was an avid ham radio operator from the age of 13 when he received his first call sign, K1MON.
